The idea of being a “member” of a group of people comes from the Bible in regards to belonging to a local church. (Rom. 12:4-5, 1 Cor. 12:14)

We believe the Bible has two basic components to being a member

  1. submitting to leadership

  2. submitting to other members

Submitting to Leadership

The new testament church gives many charges to leaders of the local church to the people they oversee (1 Peter 5:1-5) and to those in the church to their leaders. Submitting to leadership is saying that you trust the leaders God has put in place to lead you to follow Jesus. We are not called to submit to every leader of just any church but to the ones that we see as biblically qualified and given oversight of our souls.

Submitting to Other Members

There are 59 “one another” passages in the new testament. Commands we are called to fulfill with fellow believers. In becoming a member you are saying I will aim to fulfill these commands with the other members of SDCC.

There are four membership class opportunities each year in January, April, July, and October, each Sunday of those months from 9am-10am. You can sign up for a membership class here.
